What is Resveratrol?
Resveratrol is a flavonoid that is found in red grapes, muscadine grapes, peanuts and Japanese Knotweed. What makes Resveratrol so interesting to scientist is that it is a powerful antioxidant with some very interesting health benefits. Studies have shown that Resveratrol can trigger the release of the SIRT1 (Sirtuin 1) gene, which is known as the longevity gene. In numerous animal studies, Resveratrol has been shown to increase lifespan and decrease the rate of disease.
The Right Dosage of Resveratrol
Initially studies used mega doses of resveratrol, so it was at first believed Ibutamoren MK-677 that humans had to take at least 500mg of Resveratrol a day. In fact, many companies were recommending from 500 – 3,000mg a day. New studies show that the correct dosage is probably much lower, in the 50mg – 300mg range.
A study done at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington found that lower doses of resveratrol protected rats’ hearts from artificially induced heart attacks (that was not surprising), but high doses actually made the attacks worse.
Should You Try Resveratrol Supplements?
As long term human studies on Resveratrol have not been done, some doctors recommend that people hold off on using Resveratrol supplements until more studies are done. Still, the potential health benefits of resveratrol are so great that some people have already started to use supplements.
